Bengaluru (also called Bangalore) is the capital of India’s southern Karnataka state. The center of India’s high-tech industry, the city is also known for its parks and nightlife. By Cubbon Park, Vidhana Soudha is a Neo-Dravidian legislative building. Former royal residences include 19th-century Bangalore Palace, modeled after England’s Windsor Castle, and Tipu Sultan’s Summer Palace, an 18th-century teak structure.
IISc Bangalore is a public university that offers UG, PG, and doctoral-level programmes in the fields of Engineering, Sciences, Management, and Design. The university is located in Bangalore and was established in 1909. Jamsetji Tata was one of the founding fathers of IISc Bangalore and hence it is also known as “Tata Institute”. The IISc Bangalore campus is spread over 400 acres. IISc Bangalore is ranked 1st by NIRF 2024 under the Universities and Research categories, and 4th under the Innovation category. Various government organizations like DRDO, ISRO, Indian Ordinance Factories, CSIR, CDAC, Bharat Electronics Limited, etc have collaborations with IISc Bangalore.
Bengaluru is connected by air, rail and road to all the metropolises and most major cities of the country. Also, one can fly direct to Bengaluru from several international airports
IISc is about 35kms from the airport. One could take a prepaid taxi (currently, costs Rs. 750, and the counter is available near the exit of the Airport Building), or a city taxi (costs about Rs. 700, and a queue for the same is just outside the airport building). The Institute is known as “Tata Institute” to the locals and is just past Mekhri circle and on the way to Yeshwantpura (one must take a right turn at Mekhri circle). A Shuttle bus service, operated by Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC), runs from the airport to various areas in Bengaluru city every 15 minutes. If one plans to take a bus into town, one will have to move past Malleswaram 18th cross bus stand towards Yeshwantpura in order to reach IISc (also popularly called Tata Institute). There is also a bus stop on the highway between the yellow over bridge and Prof. CNR Rao circle, and another one at Prof. CNR Rao circle (on Sir CV Raman Road ). Finally there is a bus stop at Yeshwantpura tollgate, just off campus near R block. Most buses go to one of these places.
Lalbagh is a botanical garden with an over 200-year history. First planned and laid out by King Hyder Ali, the garden was later managed under numerous British Superintendents before Indian Independence. It was responsible for the introduction and propagation of numerous ornamental plants as well as those of economic value. It also served a social function as a park and recreational space, with a central glass house dating from 1890 which was used for flower shows. In modern times, it hosts two flower shows coinciding with the week of Republic Day (26 January) and Independence Day (15 August). As an urban green space along with Cubbon Park, it is also home to numerous wild species of birds and other wildlife. The garden also has a lake adjoining a large rock on which a watchtower had been constructed during the reign of Kempegowda II.
ISKCON Sri Radha Krishna temple was inaugurated in the year 1997. It is not just a temple, but a cultural complex housing the temples dedicated to the Deities of Sri Sri Radha Krishnachandra, Sri Sri Krishna Balarama, Sri Sri Nitai Gauranga, Sri Srinivasa Govinda, Sri Prahlada Narasimha, Bhakta Hanuman, Garudadeva and Srila Prabhupada, Founder Acharya of ISKCON. ISKCON Bangalore is a charitable society with the objective of propagating Krishna Consciousness all over the world, as explained by Srila Prabhupada, whose teachings are based on Bhagavad-gita and Srimad Bhagavatam.
Bangalore Palace is a 19th century royal palace located in Bangalore, Karnataka, India, built in an area that was owned by the Rev. John Garrett, the first principal of the Central High School in Bangalore. The palace was commissioned for the Maharaja of Mysore, Chamarajendra Wadiyar X, and currently belongs to the current head of the Wadiyar dynasty, Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar.
